Game trade prices are way off

Recommended Posts

Valve's already been paid for the game (when the Gift was bought), so it's hardly "a scam to valve from scrap.tf".

As for the game itself, it currently is 50% off in the Steam sale, making it at £3.49 ($5.50). This is about 3.5 keys (1 key on the 'gray market' is £1.05). Therefore, on a normal day, you can pay 7 key's-worth for the game through the Store, or you can pay almost 1/4 of the price here.

I don't see what the issue is here. We make profit on the game (we buy it a little below what we sell it at), you buy it way below what you would pay to Valve, and Valve gets some profit on the sale originally, so everyone wins. The end user (you) more than anyone else (Valve makes a small profit due to it usually being people who can get the game cheaper buying it and circulating it and we make a small profit just on thevendoring of the game, you make a 'profit' of the savings you make - nearly 6 keys is saved on the game when it is not on sale).

Prices are set to ensure a good circulation of games and Half Life 2 has been selling well for 2 keys. At this early stage we (scrap.tf) have multiple things to keep in mind:

- Set prices that make it attractive to sell to us

- Set prices that make it attractive to buy from us

- Make some profit to allow game banking to grow and for periods of falling prices

- Make sure that inventory has a good selection is available to players who want to purchase games

The last point sometimes makes it necessary to set prices that end users might not universally agree with. But if you keep in mind that keys can be bought for as low as $1.80 via Paypal, we are still beating even the sales price for almost every region. If you are buying keys for $2.50 from Valve, of course that deal will be worse. If you find a cheap key source, I can promise you that our deal will always be much better than store itself.

That being said if the bot is fully stocked with a certain game, we might adjust the price to attract more buyers.

Don't be upset by every "wrong" price please, just compare it to your region's price and see if it makes sense for you to obtain a game from us.
