Fernweh
Typing this on a spare laptop right now. So, I go a new Nvidia Asus Geforce Strix 950 GTX, put it in the right place, securely fastened it to my Asus Z97-A motherboard, plugged in my Corsair 750 power supply (I had unplugged it before I started anything) turned on the power, and BOOM! My power supply has a small shining light in it for a quarter of a second with an accompanying pop! My father and I took apart the power supply but couldn't find a major burn mark anywhere, although my comp. had a slight burning plastic smell. Some Specs: Motherboard: Asus Z97-A Power Supply: Corsair RM750 Processor: (Some i5 processor, will get specifics in a later edit) 8 GB of RAM Some Notes: I had a static protector on during the installation While unplugged, a white LED light on the Graphics Card turned on. I did a little Googling, and saw it mean that the GPU was receiving power. Got anything to explain this? Cause I got nothing. Edit 1:The black glue is normal. Edit 2: Got a repacement PSU. Works fine, but now my Nvidia 950 overheats in 5 minutes of run time. Edited September 25, 2016 by Nightfall the Dragon Link to comment
Pegapone
Based on what you say, it sounds like the new gpu is drawing too much power causing it to heat and put stress on the psu that the old one couldn't handle; but I'm not an expert in this stuff. That doesn't make much sense anyway since 750w should be plenty for it... Link to comment
