My response to all allegations against me and ScrapTF

This post aims to answer all the claims that have been made regarding myself and ScrapTF in a clear, objective and organized manner. With the size of ScrapTF’s user base, it is important that staff is transparent in their actions. This post will be kept up-to-date with any new information that is found, and responses to any further allegations. If you, the reader, find any incorrect information, have additional information or would like to discuss this matter further you can reply to this thread.

Keep in mind that our community rules still apply here. Anyone just shouting allegations or harassing anyone has always been banned according to our rules, no matter who it was directed towards. Harassment of this kind has never been and will never be allowed on our site, and it has nothing to do with attempting to censor people or hiding the truth.

Timeline of Recent Events

On the 25th of May 2020, a user called Salvador Limones (who is also known as Yoda or Kers Pertt) created a Twitter thread accusing me of being a pedophile. The thread contained various images and conversations that happened between members of the ScrapTF community. This was followed by discussion on several social media platforms like Reddit, Discord and Steam. I gave an initial response on the 30th of May 2020 in the form of a ScrapTF raffle. This was met with further tweets from Salvador Limones. Furthermore, on the 4th of June a video was created by Killjester (with alias Diceyy) reiterating over the Twitter thread and adding some more information from a user that goes by Carbon Helium.

History and characteristics of the community

ScrapTF was initially created in 2012 as one of the first automated TF2 trading websites. The ScrapTF community did not start until 2013 with the creation of our site chat. It was originally a programming experiment that has grown into a very close community of friends. In 2015 we added raffles which further expanded our community into what it is today. Many people may see scrap.tf as just a trading site, but to us we are a close community full of love and support for each other.

Since we are such a close community of friends, hired staff members are frequently chat regulars and close friends of myself and other staff.

Bans on ScrapTF are mostly placed as a result of a report submitted by other users. We make our best effort to be objective and as strict as possible when following the rules outlined on our site. When a user is banned, they have the option to appeal it by writing a response to us. To be as fair as possible, appeals are read and dealt with by a staff member who does not handle reports so that they aren't directly involved with the banning of users to negate any personal bias.

Our main point of community on scrap.tf is our chat system. It contains both public and private rooms, similar to what you find on Discord. They are about bringing friends with similar interests together. Anyone can make their own room and invite whoever they want. Some lewd rooms have existed in chat over the years and they were used for sharing NSFW artwork, discussion of it, and some roleplay of that nature. This isn’t any different from what you find in NSFW channels on Discord servers nowadays. In hindsight, the rules regarding lewd content in our chat were insufficient, however this lack of verification was not the result of a malicious intent. In the past, we regretfully did not put much effort into validating that users entering those rooms were over the age of 18. However, as of last year, we added a prominent “You must be 18 or over to enter” message to these rooms and, as of now, all lewd rooms have been removed from chat and NSFW content is no longer allowed.

Feen.us is a side project that I created for myself and my friends to upload screenshots ever since imgur turned into a social network. The name of the site references my friend Feenie, whose nickname was Feenus, and I bought that domain because I thought it would be silly. Feen.us has grown now to a few hundred users, all invited by friends of friends. I do not control what gets uploaded to Feen.us, but there are rules in place about what cannot be uploaded and everyone is able to report violations to me. I feel that the website has grown too big from its initial purpose, and I plan to clean up and remove a lot of users who are inactive or unknown.

Footrest Incident

Since most staff members are already close friends, some relationships and lewd activities have occurred between them, including myself. One of my best friends who I have known for a long time is Luna. Back in 2015 a mutual friend of ours got ahold of some of his photos because Luna liked to share them between friends. This “friend” proceeded to post one of these photos on 4chan’s /vg/ board for malicious reasons. I will obviously not show the photo, but it contains the words “Jesse’s Footrest” on his chest, which is where the “footrest incident” stems from. At the time Luna and I were in a relationship and we are two years apart in age.

After this leak, the photo was posted multiple times on scrap.tf by malicious people (mostly by /vg/ users at the time). About 30 users were initially banned from scrap.tf for posting this content and harassing us about the “footrest” photo. At one point Geel created a raffle in order to identify some of the anonymous users posting this photo in order to preemptively ban them from our site so they couldn’t spread it on scrap.tf. I wasn’t involved with creating this raffle, but that’s as much as I can remember about it. In hindsight, banning users for “being a part of /vg/” was a bad idea, and bans relating to this subject are now handled much better with their reasons and appeals.

Even though it’s now 5 years old, this photo continues to surface and get spread around communities such as Discord and we end up being harassed for it again on scrap.tf. Sharing a lewd photo of anyone without their permission or referencing it just to harass people is wrong and illegal in many places, so users continue to get banned for this activity.

Pony+ Badge

On scrap.tf we have a badge system where users earn badges from various events or milestones they reach. One badge is called “Pony+”, and it is given out to regular visitors of chat, typically to users with pony avatars. It doesn't give you any perks, it's just a fun thing to give to friends. Like I said earlier, close friends and staff members have had consensual exchange of lewd images, but that is completely unrelated to this badge or our site.

A community support member called “Luki” was asked about the allegations and appeared to confirm this. However, this is not the case. Luki was added by Kers a few months prior on both steam and discord, and was used to talking about various, trivial topics. It was certainly not clear at the start of this conversation that it was meant in a serious way, hence the initial response. Shortly after Kers’ last message, as Kers confirmed, Luki deleted the messages due to him panicking that the messages could be used out of context. Deleting the messages was not the correct choice, but Luki has made it clear that they do not stand behind the message which the accusers are trying to convey with these screenshots.

Quote

The situation was quite weird for me, as I recognized his name from the site, but did not realize he was banned at that time. He added me on steam and discord, and we talked for a bit, seeming to be interested and friendly. One day he started a conversation on discord with me, starting with an allegation that you have to send a butt pic before you get the pony+ badge (message #1)

rKacbk42L3ZsAuwxAcKFMkCe-oETrYUth_6TDwGE

I responded jokingly, as I expected it not to be a serious question. I was visiting my parents at that time and was busy talking to them IRL, making me not pay full attention to the conversation.“Not the only way” was meant as in “there are a thousand ways to accomplish something”, and in the unlikely way you would get close enough to Jesse to send him a lewd picture, you would be close enough to be considered a friend worthy of the Pony+ badge. I then started talking about my experience  of how I got it, but before I could send that, another message was sent by Kers (#2)

k8McJ_tBgM2QEC4w-3rj3Pc2jCN8KOI3YSHNgMC6

My message here was still responding to the first message, not considering how serious message #2 sounds.
After reading message #2 and the following message #3, I responded with a firm “No, not at all”, but I no longer have access to the messages sent, as I removed the messages and blocked them in a moment of panic, as I afterwards figured they could be used out of context.

Note: It should also be worth mentioning that this happened somewhere in March, while I was taking a break from scrap due to life stuff getting ahead of me. This adds to the reason that I was not sure about his relation to the community, and his motives behind trying to talk to me.

Pillzman’s Fox

Pillzman's Fox claims there was an incident involving child pornography on my website Feen.us and a user named Lilith (screenshot of our conversation). The folder he was referencing did not contain any IRL photos, only NSFW artwork of her character and other user’s characters. None of the artwork appeared to be depicting underage characters. Pillzman claimed that the owner of one of the characters in an image was underage. Either way, I deleted the artwork from feen.us and told Lilith to not upload any artwork with them again. This was the only time content like that was reported to me.

Pillzman was  banned  from our website because of multiple reports we received from Lilith and another female user of his creepy and predatory behavior towards them on and off scrap.tf. Once Lilith cut off contact with Pillzman, he began to report her many times for invalid reasons in an attempt to get them banned from our site: Example 1 Example 2 Example 3 Example 4

Final Words

My initial response to these allegations did not contain any extensive personal information nor evidence to back it up because I did not feel the need to bring that all to light. Personal attacks like this can happen very frequently and it is difficult to determine when they are anything beyond meaningless attacks (these attacks can be slander of any kind). Now that I recognize that this is a serious case with the situation getting pushed and twisted further, I have provided my full response to these claims. As this situation develops, I will continue to respond and treat this matter seriously.

On the topic of the initial response raffle, I had decided to end it earlier than intended (from 24 hours to 12) because I went to sleep at that time. However, I offered to continue the discussion on my profile for later. This was the best choice I saw since raffle comments can very easily get difficult to keep track of.

I have been harassed and threatened many times for the “footrest incident” but being called a pedophile has brought this situation to a new low. Many (though not all) users issuing/supporting these claims are past members of the scrap.tf community that have been banned prior to this incident. The reasons for those bans vary from harassment to hate speech and antisemitism. Many of their claims have been twisted or manipulated in order to make them sound worse for me. My intention has always been to protect our staff and the users of our site from people like them.

I hope this explanation clarifies these accusations, and how they’ve been used against me. I have responded with the truth and recounted events as best as I remember them. I find Scrap.tf to be a wonderful place full of great people, and I strive to keep it that way.

I wanna ask multiple questions since you seem genuine about your response and I don't wanna take sides and rather hear it from you.

>Was Server 3 closed because of his toxic behavior that had to do with the people mentioning Footrest there often?

>Did you imply the update on Scrap with that banned users would be almost fully be erased out of Scrap history due of the banwave that happen regarding Footrest in which you'd want less people to know about it?

>Why didn't you address this issue after you found out about it?

>The entire staff knew about this incident when it happen?

Thank you in advance for responding and I hope this can make everything clear so this whole drama would end once and for all, you really should've mentioned this drama before it even happen to avoid all this

I hope everything goes back to normal after these allegations blow away, but I do have to ask about the legitimacy of the claims about Pony+. I have seen some screenshots, none saved for obvious reasons, about it being the "tramp stamp" of scrap. I understand Luki's view of the story but I do want to know your personal opinion about it because even though I trust the site to be just a wacky fun site for tf2, but having private chatrooms and being a site with mostly minors does seem a little bit alarming to my mind. I don't know if the screenshots were legit but the person seems scared about talking about it, which I can sympathize because if the allegations happened to me I would be scared to talk about it because scrap is such a friendly community. Also you referenced Carbon's essay on feen but did not really talk about it. Honestly, I think Carbon did a great job on explaining his point of view and I agree with him that if any of these allegations are true (hopefully not) that we don't want to see anybody being sucked into this cycle. Hopefully you respond back against these allegations to finally end them and hopefully the community can move on from it.

Hopefully everything goes back to normal,

honestly for me all this damn situation is just some drama that will end in a week or month and we can back to our daily trades as usual

i remember people saying geel in 2016 was acussed of steal raffle items from private raffles when i never see any evidence or just some dumb screenshots

and boom people forget of that in just a week

when what really happends is that the winner raffles never claim the winning items

I have to seriously wonder what the hell is wrong with these people to pull this shit. This is not like some normal internet trolling garbage. This is serious accusations. To me, if they really had any merit behind it, they'd put proof behind their statements. And from what I've heard, anytime they are confronted to be asked about proof, they engage in more subterfuge and misdirection of the topic.

My question to Jesse and the scrap staff is this: Based on the way things are going in this world today, isn't the activities and the claims this group are making somewhat illegal? I mean, child porn accusations are fairly high up there, and can severely damage someone IRL, especially in an age when anyone from employers to banks can look up a person's online history and activity. Because if they have no proof of this, other than claims, pretty sure this is something that can be investigated. It's also especially something they can't just claim "it's just a joke" to try to absolve it.

Good response, was afraid this drama was going to get more and more out of hand, but hopefully this can put all the drama to rest.

Of course there's more stuff that could probably be added (like the threats and propaganda from you-know-who's server that you had posted in the original raffle) to make this statement more concise and complete, but I'm sure that that as well as some other stuff will be added as time goes on.

Get some rest, you need it.

Users did bring up footrest on server 3 at times, but the majority of offenses on there were plain racism from users that were never even active in the ScrapTF community. It was closed because we believed it was not worth the extra moderation effort to curb their rampant behavior.

I'm not 100% clear on what you're asking, but I think you're wondering why we banned so many people for it. It was not intended to "cover up" the incident (I did talk about it to people who asked politely in private messages), rather we were just following our own rules for removing harassing or personal content from people. If there are any bans left from that time that were perm without reason, I will go back and allow users to appeal them.

This is a valid question, and maybe I should have addressed the issue earlier. I did not feel the need to respond earlier because a photo being leaked is a deeply personal thing, and I don't think anyone would want to have to go through a response to it.

This clarified some things, and I cannot disagree with the reason of banning Pillzman, I don't see any text edit and really surprises me what kind of "person" he is. However, there are still A LOT of holes on both sides, and because one of them is silenced for X behaviours, I also want to ask one thing: I saw a lot of attack messages from certain members on the posts of the users who where attacking you, but mostly from a certain user who has been attacking them and defending you, but instead of doing like you and giving evidence of why he disregarded about the opposite opinions, he (or she idk) has just went insulting and attacking anyone who didn't thinked the same of you. And if you X user who went agressive towards that users are reading this, even if they are wrong or not, no matter in what problem, as I always say: going agressively attacking other people is NOT the way to confront a conflict. Verbal insults and other are NOT the way to solve problems. If you disregard with somebody, and most importantly if they're dangerous or can easily get angry, don't just go "Your evidence is [redacted] [redacted] you the owner of the site has the right to ban you you [redacted]", give proper evidence of why you don't agree with them and don't stalk or attack every single person who posts something against someone or somebody. The best way to confront this kind of situation is with calm and patience, not by force (no matter if is verbal or physic).

I feel I'm having trouble asking the questions, so let me explain it

Before Scrap.tf was made, Banned users would still co-exist in the raffle comments without having their comments deleted

But after a while there was an update in Scrap.tf which would erase any comments regarding a Banned users in any raffles they commented before or any raffles they ever made

Now my question is if the update was implemented due of the whole footrest thing (Since I found out about this whole incident out of curiosity on a user who got banned with a very odd reason in their scrap profile and I decided to add them in order to know what was the reason), or was it just coincidence that you updated it in such time and decided to implement this update?

I covered most of this in my initial post, but these rooms were not "full of minors" like some people claim. I am not sure who the censored screenshots are from, but I agree that NSFW chat rooms did not belong on our site.

Whatever's going on, I hope you can stay safe. The TF2 community is so, so eager to scream pedophile at literally any prominent community figure. I'm still researching this before I decide what side I'm on, but you don't deserve to be hunted to the ends of the earth like some of these people want to do to you. Thank you for making an effort to be transparent and tell your side of the story.

Also I want to ask if those who mentioned footrest could get unbanned. I know a lot of people that got banned got just referencing on outside sources because they were scared of already getting banned for mentioning it. Since you already revealed it, I think it would make sense for those who got banned for mentioning footrest to just learn more. It's up to the staff anyways but I would recommended it.

A scrap.tf user once went into the trouble to try and track down every Pony+ user in the website, he apparently found 103.
I think releasing a precise, official number of users (not the list of users itself of course) who have been awarded it so far would clear up once and for all unreasonable claims surrounding that badge. I think people not familiar with scrap.tf believe this is some sort of "rare badge" or whatever, when it's actually not that rare/exclusive.

Of course there's more stuff that could probably be added (like the threats and propaganda from you-know-who's server that you had posted in the original raffle) to make this statement more concise and complete, but I'm sure that that as well as some other stuff will be added as time goes on.

I also think you shouldn't hold back with the proof regarding how untrustworthy and creepy these ex-members involved are, especially the ones involved in antisemitism and homophobia.

Yes this kind of harassment and threats is illegal.

As a witness to the Footrest incident I can stand by the fact Everyone who was affected by the Feenus breach was of Legal age.
Jesse is my age.

I'm 24 Years old.

I was honestly scared by what was happening when it did, because I care about all the staff members at Scrap.tf cause they are pretty friendly.

-

This next part may or may not be true: (My memory has faded a bit since it's been years)

The person who found out the exploit didn't mean for this to happen, his friends were really childish about the whole thing (trolls) and started spreading the photos as Jesse stated.

-

In my defense in this case, Jesse is NOT a pedo. Jesse was of legal age, legal relationship.

It wasn't his fault this happened. People will somehow find ways around things as our one friend did. (by accident or maybe on purpose I don't know.)

I am truly upset by the sick people that think they can really get away with warping people's minds to have shit like this happen.

And I'm honestly really fed up with people sending Jesse and the staff death threats, not only are they illegal in the USA, They are childish and just show how much you cared about them in the first place.

Ending statement:

Don't bully the staff and owners, Don't spread controversy over a JOKE someone does.

And most of all. Ask the person directly if you can instead of listening to Rumors.

If I need to make any edits I will do so.)

After watching the video and mulling things over and doing a bit more research, I think it's pretty easy to see that this is just tf2 jumping on the pedo bandwagon and taking something someone says on the internet as law. Stay safe Jesse, I'll happily continue to use scrap.tf and marketplace.tf for my trading needs and recommend this site to friends. Might even interact on the forums a bit more haha

I will be going through old bans placed for this reason and allowing them to appeal again.

It's my belief this allegation was made in retaliation for banning 'Tacobot' players. They were upset at Geel and Scrap.tf for banning their accounts from using the site that they began going around MvM lobbies claiming 'Geel was a Pedo'.

They did the same for a player named REMP Owner.

This is how children behave when they get their toys taken away from them.

I wouldn't worry too much about feeling the need to defend yourself against it. If people are stupid enough to believe anything Tacobot players say to them, let them believe what they want to.

I may not always agree with Geel, however few have done as much for the TF2 community as he and the rest of the Scrap.tf team.

Only thing Tacobot contributes is anger, bitterness, toxicity and generally being unwanted in every game they join and now too ashamed to even tag up making themselves obvious to others.

Thank you Geel and Scrap.tf for everything and hope this passes soon because it's absolutely disgraceful and disgusting to be honest to see this kind of treatment and behaviour in our community. I'm sorry m8 you deserve better.

Part of that update was to make moderation easier so we don't have to hunt down other rule breaking things people did. It was also done to curb the curiosity that you explained about banned users in an attempt to stop the spread of the photo. It seems like this only further expanded people's curiosity about it, but I hope you can see it from my viewpoint about wanting to stop the spread of a personal photo. Now that this explanation is out there it should clear it up for everyone.
