  • Tip 1: Reposition your router. Move it away from walls or other obstructions.
  • Tip 2: Reposition your computer. Connect your laptop or desktop to the router via an Ethernet cable.
  • Tip 3: Enable QoS (Quality of Service). In most modern routers, you can enable QoS, which allows you to prioritize certain devices on your network. This option can be found in your router's settings. Type in your router's IP into your browser's search bar, and login with your username and password. This info is usually provided on the router itself or in the user manual.
  • Tip 4: Use Task Manager. Task Manager allows you to manage CPU usage of certain applications. Click Start or Cortana (Win 10 Only) and type in "Task Manager." Click on it. A window will pop up showing a few tasks. Click on the "More details" button. You will see a list of active tasks. Find "hl2.exe" on the list (you can also click on "CPU" to organize tasks by CPU usage) and right click on it. Click on "Go to details." Right click on "hl2.exe" on the new list that shows up (it should be already highlighted), then hover over "Set task priority." I recommend setting it to "High," but you can also set it to "Realtime" for maximum performance.

Here's a video from CNET that provides some more tips: http://www.cnet.com/videos/ways-to-speed-up-your-wi-fi/

Hope this helps!
